The only thing worse than a Bridezilla for a client is a dead one.

Max Walters is a talented bridal consultant with dreams of moving to New York and being a designer, even if it means leaving behind her serene California seaside home.

When her boss goes on vacation, things quickly unravel when one of her brides-to-be collapses in the shop during a fitting and dies at the hospital soon after, apparently poisoned.  A shocking murder rips the tranquil veneer of Crystal Shores to shreds, as she discovers there is more to her home town than meets the eye. With her friend arrested for murder and the police refusing to search for another suspect, Max quickly discovers the only way to clear his name is to investigate for herself. With help from her new assistant, Keiko, and the other colorful residents of Crystal Shores, Max begins to weave together a list of suspects, much to the concern of the handsome Detective Cruz.

Will she be able to tie up the loose threads and catch the murderer? Or will the murderer get to her first?

I’ve only recently discovered Cozy Mysteries and I have to admit to a new genre addiction (like I don’t have enough genre books to get read already – *grin*)).  I got lucky to discover not only a new genre but a new author when I picked up Murder in White Lace in a handful of Cozy Mysteries to start with.  I happen to be a reader who absolutely loves small towns with their gossip, secrets, closeness and friendships.  Secondary characters always matter to me as they add to the general story with tidbits of information and a glimpse of what may become future main attractions in their own tales to be told.  It’s true that the first story in a series always contains a bit of world building, but I wasn’t overwhelmed at all in the small town of Crystal Shores – and I immediately found the quirky characters that I enjoy plus a few suspects to grill in my mind.

I enjoyed Max.  She’s one of those characters that you’ll feel comfortable with almost immediately.  Oh, my goodness – Keiko – what a gem she is to this story.  Like I said, I love a quirky character and she fits that bill perfectly.  In all, this is an enjoyable, fun and quick mystery full of interesting characters and a list of suspects to cross off one by one.

If you enjoy Cozy Mysteries then Karen Sue Walker is an author you’ll want to keep an eye out for.  Personally, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
