From the moment Lorenzo Valdez saved Angie Torres from being crushed by an angry mule, he knew she was trouble. Having rolled her out of harm’s way, he can’t deny that he is intrigued by the soft, delicate woman, especially when she races away without telling him her name.
Angie serves as a spy to the Texans, aiding them in the Texas Revolution. Her desire for the enemy soldier’s arms around her goes against everything she has been fighting for. However, their fate is intertwined and they are forced to work together.
While Angie tries to protect her heart, Lorenzo must overcome his own demons. With the Texans on the verge of attacking San Antonio, Angie and Lorenzo have to fight not only for their right to love one another, but also for their lives and the future of Texas.

Although I do love Historical Romance, I’ll admit that I haven’t read many with this particular historical event as a background. The battle for independence is never easy while the losses and victories often go hand in hand. Add to the tensions as Texas fights for the ability to break from Mexico two strangers, apparent enemies find themselves battling not only the historical ramifications all around them, but their personal emotions as well.
Officially Angie and her sisters are feeding the Mexican army from their equivalent of a diner. Unofficially, they are also gathering information to help the armies that will one day free Texas from Mexico. Food and information sent to those soldiers is of vital importance in this fight for freedom. The very last thing Angie needs is attention from a very handsome, persistent Mexican soldier. Sure, Lorenzo saved her from certain harm, but simply being with him will cause far more harm to her heart, if not her true cause. Her mind says she cannot trust him, her heart tells a different story. Yet, what if Lorenzo is not all that he claims? What if he has closely held secrets as well…
Texas Conquest is an intense story full of secrets, twists and turns, backed by historical facts. I was engaged with not only Angie and Lorenzo’s romance but with the history taking place around them. No, this isn’t a history lesson. Yet it’s impossible not to feel the tensions, the building up of events that will eventually give freedom to so many people.
Two people with dangerous secrets must find a way to be together in spite of what appears to be obvious. Texas Conquest will take you right into the memories of history with a couple and a cause well forth fighting for. I completely enjoyed my time in this story and would recommend this story to any Historical Romance reader, especially those that enjoy Western Historical Romance. An intriguing story with a main couple worthy of each other, interesting secondary characters and touches of histery blended in with the romance. It’s a win all around for me.
